2005

The Dinner

During a late dinner, with close family, the idea about creating an original family vineyard for generations to come appeared.

2007

The perfect location

Finding the right location for our vineyard was a very important task. The right elevation, latitude, and slope played an important role. That’s when we found the village of Gulgula in Alazani Valley. We started with 1 hectar of land, and planted our first vines from Rkatsiteli.

2009

New grape varieties

As we wanted to expand our operations, and add some more varieties of endemic Georgian grapes, we grew our land. Shortly after we planted Kisi, Khikhvi, Mtsvane and Saperavi vines.

2016

First vintage

In 2016 we decided to have our first official bottled harvest. Hence our first vintage was born. This was going to be the year before our official EU certification, so the 2016 harvest was named our first “in-conversion to organic” wine.

2017

Organic certification

In 2017 it was time for our first EU organic certification. We had worked 4 challenging years to get there, and now it was finally time to call ourself a fully certified organic vineyard and winery.

2019

The Launch

Our philosophy is to hold on our releases for 3 years. As we know Georgian wine (qvevri wine in particular), has the capabilities to be storage wines, we know that our customers will enjoy our wines more after some maturity. Our first official wine was released in Georgia, Netherlands, France, UK and Sweden.

sustainability

M i n d f u l n e s s o f t h e E n v i r o n m e n t

At BIOMARANI our connection to sustainability and organic viticulture is a natural part of our approach to winemaking. We are coimmited to nurturing the soil, conserving water, reducing waste and minimising carbon footprint.

Our practices include sustainable viticulture, efficient water use as we have our own well on our premises, as well as energy conservation and community engagement. We believe in creating wines that not only delight the palate, but also respect the environment.

As part of the growing viticulture community in Georgia, we wanted to make sure that sustainability was front and center around our vineyard. We fully depend on our surrounding, just as it depends on us. That’s why we grow our grapes organically and sustainably. Our full organic certification from 2017 and onwards is something we are really proud of.
